Internet Safety

All children, even those who seem wise beyond their years in matters of technology, rely on their parents to guide and protect them in matters of Internet safety (even if they do not admit it).  Making even basic decisions about the family’s computer and Internet usage can be quite a hurdle for parents whose kids are often more Internet-savvy than they are.

Please take time to review these internet safety rules and discuss them with your child.

1. Never give out personal information on the Internet.

2. Be cautious when developing a website (MySpace, FaceBook).

3. Always inform your parents when you come across anything online that makes you uncomfortable.

4. Never, under any circumstances, agree to meet face-to-face with some someone you "met" on the Internet.

5. Avoid non-school chat rooms.

6. Never respond to messages that are obscene.

7. Never click on links provided by strangers through email or instant messaging.

8. Never send any personal materials to online friends.

9. Do not click on advertizing or suspisious pop-up windows.

10. Always remember that people you meet online may not be who they say they are.

Friends are great...

But make sure you know who your online friends are.
